A new Technician licensing class begins on Thursday, January 20th, and will be held for 10 weeks, once per week. This class will end about a week before our ARGYL Hamfest. Those taking the class will be able to take their licensing test at our hamfest. If you know of someone that might be interested in taking the free class, let our Advisor know.

Speaking of the ARGYL Hamfest, we received our first check, a few days ago, to reserve two tables at the hamfest by one of our regular participants.

Carole Perry, Youth Forum moderator at the Dayton Hamvention, has been in contact with our Advisor. She states that she has a used HF transceiver, in mint condition, that she wants to give to our Club. It is a Kenwood TS820S 6-band transceiver that has a built-in power supply. She will be sending it out to us soon, as soon as she can dig out from the snow where she lives in New York.

We will again be 'recording' the Youth Forum at the Dayton Hamvention. We received a lot of thank-you's and publicity for doing it for the first time last year. We will take our usual camera's, tri-pods, switcher, etc.

Just a reminder, for those eligible to go to the Dayton Hamvention, we will be leaving on Thursday, May 19th, and returning Sunday, May 22nd

Our Advisor has a new e-mail address. It is: al.eckman@comcast.net Place it in your new address book and remove the old e-mail address.

Coming up in March and April are our three fund-raisers, the set-up/tear-down for the Lowell Area Community Expo, the ARGYL Hamfest, and the Battle of the Bands. More info on all three events coming to you in the next few weeks.

The ARGYL officers will be meeting this Saturday morning to determine who is eligible for the fun activity that was recently postponed. You will receive e-mail next week as to those eligible, and when, and where, the fun activity will be held.

Our Advisor was notified that group pictures, including the ARGYL Club, for this years yearbook will be taken next week. As soon as he knows the day and time, he will pass it on to us.

Next years Freshmen will have orientation at Lowell High School on Tuesday, February 15th, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Many Clubs are setting up information booths. We will want to be one of those Clubs.

As was mentioned on a previous net, Mr Kovach, a fifth grade teacher at Cherry Creek Elementary, is starting an introductory 'Amateur Radio in the Classroom' program. We put together two antenna's for him. He already has two transceivers, a VHF/UHF transceiver, and a six-band HF transceiver. Our Advisor would like some help in placing the antenna's on the roof above his classroom, at Cherry Creek Elementary. If you can help, let our Advisor know. This is YOUR opportunity to make up for nets or other activities that you may have missed.

We cancelled an operating contest a few weeks ago, due to poor propagation. Another one has been scheduled to replace it. It is the ARRL School Club Round-up scheduled for the week of February 14th thru 18th. This is a pretty simple contest, trying to make contacts with other school clubs. Everyone can earn individual certificates if they participate. If our Club makes 10 or more contacts, the Club will receive a certificate from the ARRL. This would also be a good time to work with some of Mr Kovachs' fifth graders in helping them make some contacts with their new 'gear'. This would also be a good time to take part in a contest if you were absent at previous contests.
